Facebook Group - Combating Hate Speech

As a result of the Training workshop "Action and Campaigning against Hate speech" on 22-24 November 2012 in Budapest a new Campaign group was initiated on Facebook. It is called "Combating Hate Speech". The group has almost 400 members and it is growing rapidly. This facebook group will be considered a secondary Campaign communication tool for the activists durning the Campaign in 2013. The primary information resource is the Campaign preparatory website , but the Council of Europe will upload information on this facebook group as well.

It is an open group so you can join easily.

Campaign Preparatory Video

This is the video that was produced by Latte Creative (an online campaign expert company), which was selected by the Council of Europe to work on the tools of the online Campaign. It gives you the very first insight to the work that is going on at the moment to produce the main webapplications of the Campaign. This is not the final campaign video, it is a teaser to give you an idea about the direction the preparatory work is heading to. You are welcome to give us your comments or ideas about the video, just send an email to youth.nohatespeech@coe.int

Starting points for Combating Hate Speech Online

Starting points for Combating Hate Speech Online

You can read the book online or you can download it from below in pdf version.

As a preparation for the project, the Council of Europe’s Youth Department commissioned three “mapping” studies about the realities of hate speech and young people and projects and campaigns about it. These studies are published here as a resource for the activists, youth leaders, researchers, partners and decision makers associated to the project and the online campaign. They are truly starting points: more research is needed, both on the legal and policy implications of hate speech online as on its impact and relation with young people.

Participants will discuss the nature, extent and impact of hate speech in today’s world as well as different options for tackling the phenomenon – including issues related to self-regulation and moderation of online discussion forums.
